About the Book

Pieces of Me is a raw and unflinching memoir about surviving the unthinkable, losing yourself in the aftermath, and gathering the broken pieces to become whole again.

From childhood wounds and fractured relationships to the darkest moments of survival, Nakia M. Liles takes you through pain, healing, and the slow, difficult work of reclaiming her power. It is not only the story of what happened to her — it is the story of what became possible through her, because of her, once every piece was finally welcomed home.

This is not the end of a journey. It is a doorway — and an invitation to hold your own story, and yourself, with a little more compassion.

The Structure

Six Movements. Thirty-Nine Pieces. One Return.

The book unfolds in movements, not chapters alone — each one a different layer of the self, gathered and carried home.

Movement I

The Original Self

Who she was before survival fully formed around her — feeling, wonder, imagination, and longing, before the world asked her to armor them.

The Inner Child · The Seeker · The Curious Mind
Movement II

Survival & Adaptation

The pieces she built to keep going when the world offered no safety — protectors, healers, and the body that carried what words could not.

The Abandoned Teenager · The Wounded Healer · The Protector
Movement III

Worlds, Collapse & Reclamation

Where old beliefs, old worlds, and old versions of her fell away, and something truer was left standing in the wreckage.

The Bridge Between Worlds · The Collapse · The Identity Deaths
Movement IV

Integration & Embodiment

Learning to hold shadow and light, power and softness, the sacred and the human — in the very same body.

The Broken One · The Lost One · The Grand Keeper
Movement V

Love, Repair & Return

Mothering herself, breaking generational cycles, and finally learning to stay — long enough to let love find her.

The Generational Curse Breaker · Learning to Stay
Movement VI

Embodied Return

Coming home to every piece she'd ever been, and building a foundation — and a table — where all of them finally belong.

The Foundation I Built Within Myself · The Flame Returns Home
From the Book

Chapter One:
The Inner Child

"The Inner Child was the keeper of my magic."

Before survival hardened her. Before pain taught her how to protect herself. Before the world convinced her that softness was dangerous — there was a girl who experienced everything with her whole heart. Open-hearted. Imaginative. Sensitive. Curious. Deeply alive.

This is where Pieces of Me begins: not with the wounds, but with who she was before them — and who was still there, quietly waiting, the entire time.

Before I learned how to survive, there was a softer version of me quietly waiting to be remembered.

The Author

A survivor, storyteller, and healer.

Nakia M. Liles writes from the parts of herself that were once shamed before they were understood, and condemned before they were comforted. Through her writing, she creates space for truth, transformation, and the slow, sacred work of returning home to self.

Pieces of Me is her first memoir — an unflinching offering to every reader still putting themselves back together, and a reminder that every piece we carry, even the hidden ones, helped create the masterpiece we are becoming.
